WoW! (Problem=Addiction)?

Question by Marmalade: WoW! (Problem=Addiction)?
Hey ive finally decided that I want to start playing WoW. However, im scared ill get too addicted. Ive played a lot of other games, like all the time, but my grades have never dropped from my 4.0 GPA. I REALLY wanna install WoW but Im not sure if I should, like if I get too into it. Don’t tell me not to install it, but like…Is there a way to maybe stay like not addicted?

Im installing it on my macbook, so the max i should play is about 2 hours, & i never play for that long. I mean addiction as in like I play for 2 hours one time…Then i log off and like half an hour later I just HAVE to log on again. I dont want that happening. Help?
BTW, i can just about play whenever i want bcuz i never study anyway, just pay attention in class and like, i get an a+ or close to that. I dont wanna be addicted as in like social life.

Eh… play for hours straight for the first few days, then you’ll get bored of it.

Or, just download the free trial from the site! It’s ten days, and gives you a nice chance to try out the game. Then if you get addicted, don’t get the actual game. If you don’t, but still like it, go get it!

Other than this, I wouldn’t know.

I play wow and it is like that. However sometimes you just gotta leave it alone. Remember it will always be there when the appropriate time is to play, your not going to lose anything by leaving it until after your studies are done. It’s not you it’s just a really awesome game to play.

In my opinion, there are so many better things to be doing than playing WoW. I used to play Runescape, a similar mmorpg, and I must have wasted over 500 hours in total on that stupid game. Then one day, out of the blue, I realized that the game was crap and quit playing it altogether. I gave my friends my passwords and never looked at the game again (they too quit eventually.) I’ve heard the same about WoW, (from some of those same friends who played runescape) and really it’s not worth playing mmorpgs like WoW and Runescape. They’re mainly for people who are extremely bored and have a lot of time to waste. Plus, WoW is fifteen dollars a month (I think), and that’s an extreme waste of money in my opinion (xbox live is only five dollars a month and much more entertaining.) In any case, if you do play it, don’t go overboard and play to the point where you get carpal tunnel.

By the way, I too had a 4.0+ Gpa, while playing runescape for about 2-4 hours a day, but I never had to study to get good grades or anything like that. I usually did homework on the bus, so I suppose you could slide by even with a 2+ hour a day gaming addiction.

Look as a gamer who played games for years and shit. the game does not
control you okay like facebook you see people post update’s or pictures
every minutes like they need it. if you allow something to control you
    thats when you seek help?

    this doesn’t feel like a documentary… sorry dudes… i’m not a gamer, but
I was interested and excited to watch this, but where is the engaging
story? You still need a point and a main character… i was wondering what
their parents think or how do they take showers or eat? You know… the
south park ep about the gamers …. is this suppose to be good or bad for
you? It is addicted or not??? Make another one!?

This study is completely flawed. The test group was a bunch of kids, maybe
of legal age to be adults, but still very young. It’s completely biased.
Maybe a better argument in stead of “Are video games addicting?” could
have been, “What are these 10 college students’ opinions about video
gaming?” or “Can video games become addicting?”. Whether a person becomes
addicted to video games or no is completely dependent on the person.

Gaming does have the potential to destroy peoples’ lives. Millions of
people try cigarettes, pot, acid, mushrooms, meth, alcohol and other mind
or body altering substances without becoming addicted. Those who DO become
addicted are the people who were already at risk of becoming an addict.
Not to mention the fact that most times, video games/movies/other forms of
entertainment generally become coupled with other substances such as
    alcohol or marijuana.

Video gaming can become a very POWERFUL substance in an addicts life. This
form of entertainment combines many forms of art, all into one form,
however, in this form of entertainment the viewer has the opportunity to
interact with the entertainment. When a gamer invests a substantial amount
of time into a video game, and then progresses, this can potentially
produce adrenaline. Some experts may even say that adrenaline may be one
of the most powerful drugs, such as speed. Acid, Mushrooms, and
amphetamines produce very similar effects to that of adrenaline. This can
very well induce a state of grandeur illusion where the gamer actually
physically and emotionally feels like they are a God or the God.

When I was 17, I didn’t think I could ever become an addict, and never
thought that I was touchable. Now I’m 27, I haven’t kept a job for longer
than 4 months at a time. It took me 8 years to get through college,
coupled with a mountain of debt. I’ve rarely taken a break from my
favorite game for over 2 years. I play every day for at least 6 hours.

I have played for over 24 hours at a time before, I have gone through two
relationships where my significant other was always having to compete with
the video game. All of my relationships have ended partially due to my
video gaming addiction. I didn’t care.

Tell me, how many people in our generation are UNEMPLOYED PROFESSIONAL
GAMERS? Most life gamers don’t get paid.

Can people become addicted to video games? yes; Can people become addicted
to exercising? yes; Can people become addicted to sex? yes

However; none of these things cause addiction. Addiction is a result of
society’s effects on modern day humans emotional well beings. Addiction is
usually always a direct result of depression. Depression may also be one
of the most ignored medical conditions in the world. What happens when
people are depressed? You would like to think that people try to help each
other, but that’s not how our society works. You ignore people who are
depressed, or you make fun of them, or you laugh at them. Video games end
up just making your depression worse because of how they effect the other
aspects of your life, then you get sucked deeper into the video game world,
because your void that needs to be filled is so much larger.

Thank your government for understanding more about the human brain than the
common citizen; because the government LOVES having a depressed population.
The problem is not the things that we become addicted to, but depression
    and addition itself. ?

I play more and more games the older i get.I dont find TV interesting
anymore. And most of the new movies they made is so bad, with such a boring
pointless cliche story. The story and experience is much better, longer and
original in games today then most movies. Also a lot more fun to play games
like FIFA or Mortal Kombat with some friends then watching some movie or

people I know that are heavy drug users never really were huge gamers and
the kids that do play a lot didn’t take that route in life so im thankful

games over your friends and jobs. school on the other hand i can understand
why you would chose a game over.
