I myself am not a person that spends their time on online games anymore, but it could be because they simply like the game, or some circumstances, if any.
You have to see this, like many other things, in more ways than one. You see something one way, they see it another, much like opinions and tastes. Something along the lines of “One person’s trash is another’s treasure”.
sometimes they learn how to plan a strategyy… like my self, i played the warcraft three, and it helped me to gain experience in planning and would not feel scared about war… and it overcome boredom too…
People play games because they enjoy them.
from the person who does not enjoy a paticular hobbie its hard for them to understand why others do it.
Warcraft and other games give the player a chance to bring their imagination to life. In reality they are basic joe going about his routine but it the game world joe is a mighty warrior vanquishing the forces of evil.
People enjoy lving in an imaginary from the girl who imagines the dream date with her Mr. perfect to the Nerd who wants to be a hero and travel through an exotic world.
Imagination is the world all of us go to at one point or another to escpae the stress of everyday life and online games are able to bring that world to life for some.
They play because its fun at first and eventually that get sucked into it and its not like any other game on a system that there is an end to. in WoW there is no end you can always get better always get new gear and always get farther in raid progression.
And about the respect for themselves most people start playing because there friends play but when there friends quit and they don’t then they become detached and only see the people in the game as there friends so in there mind they do have respect but its from people that are on a game.
It is a world of fiction but there are a vast of majority that see it as more then that they see it as an escape from there miserable reality. If there bad lives are because of the game i don’t know but again to the people playing its not a waste of there lives.
about it being a drug there are tons and i mean tons of experts trying to show the world of this and to some it can become a drug.
I know i kinda am defending the people who are addicted and that’s because i use to be and i know whats it like. And to some people the people they meet online are there friends and can become accaul friends I have some people that i know online i would call a “friend”
but again some people cant pull away and the only way out is suicide i know this because i used to know someone who killed himself over this game.
I got caught up in the online game addiction for a while, and yeah it is like a drug addiction and besides making you a bum it kills your body & mind. I still play, but i control my time alot more, maybe 2 to 5 hours a week or less. I play Yahoo Chess, Rumble Fighter, and Left 4 Dead mostly.
Video Games are entertainment. But if you do it 24/7, you lose respect for doing anything else (maybe even yourself) and that would be called escapism or addiction, escaping to anything that gives you pleasure from reality whether its a conscious or subconscious action. Video Games are great despite the possibility of addiction, you just need to do it in moderation. If everything’s done in moderation, life becomes much more productive.
I’d rather have some sort of interaction with my entertainment, rather than watching endless ShamWow commercials.
Plus it’s easier to ignore trolls on WoW than it is to ignore idiots at the bar, etc.
