Why Do People Have Trouble Quitting World of Warcraft?
Question by Jonathan H: Why do people have trouble quitting World of Warcraft?
It’s something that I’ve never understood when it comes to videogame addiction. I understand the Skinner-box methods used to condition players into having fun, but what was it about this game that kept you playing?
If some of you have been affected by WoW addiction what got you hooked in the first place?
Thanks!

Quitting is easy…. but blizzard keeps getting out new patches and other stuff which improves gameplay by a lot…. thats why people start playing again after quitting… because there is a lot more stuff you can do and the game never finishes… you can do team stuff on the game and is packed with a lot of fun…. that only once you have played a while… I started playing WOW because of a friend and i hated the game… later he quit and let me have his account… so i started messing around and found it really fun… I also stopped now though 🙂

it had no BS like COD
I have never played WoW but my friend has. He said that most people probably get addicted because they can relate to other people in the game and feel like they are their friends. Ultimately the feel like everyone who cares about them is in the game. Just an Opinion
I started playing with a buddy of mine and got addicted. Its sort of like having another life where you can do whatever you want. There is always something better that you can go and try to get/ achieve. I couldnt afford the fess every month so i stopped and got out of the addiciton. lol
My guess: Probably because the people who can’t quit are lacking in hobbies, or other videogames to play.
I personally never had a problem quitting WoW. I’ve played it since it’s launch days and began losing interest after BC came out. The game had changed too much and I wasn’t liking the changes to the game and the lore. Plus, as a gamer, I’m quite busy. I’ve got a ton of games to play, including tons of multiplayer games to play with my friends. And we were just having way more fun playing those other multiplayer games than we were currently having with WoW. Our interest waned and we stopped playing.
I gave WoW one more shot after WotLK came out (Went back by myself, friends didn’t want to play anymore). I hit 80, and stopped. No heroics, no raids, no pvp, just stopped. My interest has faded permanently and I will not be coming back, ever. I even tried out a Cataclysm trial. No thanks.
The interest for me just isn’t there anymore. I’ve played a ton of games since then, and I’ve had way more fun playing other games. WoW has nothing to offer me anymore, and I’m on the lookout for Star Wars: The Old Republic now. Keep in mind that MANY WoW players are not avid videogamers, and have probably never played an MMO before, or any other videogame before, thus they’ve never had to deal with addiction or “quitting”. I’ve been through it lots of times before, and I’m well aware when an MMO has nothing more to offer me. It was easy for me to stop, my brother keeps trying to get me back in and I’m completely apathetic about it. I just don’t care about it anymore, and I never will again.
@Damon: You and your friends aren’t a valid statistic of the entire WoW playerbase. It just so happens that many people I know who play WoW aren’t avid videogamers and aren’t even interested in picking any other game up or trying anything else, and many people I’ve ran into ingame are exactly like this as well. And many people I’ve known throughout my entire life who’ve never played games before have started playing WoW and only WoW. I hear this happening all the time. Out of all my friends, the avid videogamers are the ones who quit and left the game in the dust. The others aren’t so lucky.

Not true at all. Me along with everyone I have every know that plays wow are avid video gamers. Most people get addicted to MMO’s because they do not want to stop, because it would be like everything they put into the game was for absolutely nothing. I have played video games since I was 4 (now 20) and MMO’s since 2003 and I just cant stop. Esp when expansions keep renewing you interest and friends play them.
Hey! thank you for this helpful video. By the way, I hear a lot of people keep on talking about conversational hypnosis course called Covertalox Hypnosis (search on google), but I’m not sure if it’s good. Have you thought about Covertalox Hypnosis? I have heard some unbelivable things about it and my mate finally can hypnotize someone covertly using it, but he? refuses to tell me: (
