What Is the Name of the Medication That Doctors Give to Patients to Get Rid of Drug Addictions Immediately?
Question by chris m: What is the name of the medication that doctors give to patients to get rid of drug addictions immediately?
What is the name of the medication that doctors give to patients to get rid of drug addictions immediately? I think I read this somewhere, that there was a patient who was in a coma from cocaine use, and the doctors gave him a medication to get rid of his addictions. The author was asking why doctors don’t give it out to all drug addicts. I was wondering what the name of the drug was, because I could possible do a good college paper on this topic. Thanks 🙂

i think you could do a good paper on this drug anywhere because it does not exhist. If it did there would be some instant millionairs from selling it and from doctors for prescribing it.

Doctors often give patients Narc-an to end the effects of a drug {IE: stop the high} but this does not eliminate the craving. Most drug rehab programs take several days and rely on supportive medications to ease the symptoms of withdrawal. Another drug that is used for alcohol abuse is Antibuse which makes a patient violently ill if alcohol is ingested while the patient is taking the medication. Unfortunately, there is no “magic pill” to end addiction.
I know what you are talking about they use it for heroine addiction too……do a yahoo search on rapid detox…..it should have the name of the drug there….I think its called Methadone…but not sure…..
There are a few different meds that can be given, depending on what the drug addiction is to. Naltrexone is used to help narcotic addicts who have stopped taking narcotics to stay drug-free. It is also used to help alcoholics stay alcohol-free.
Methadone: The most common method of detoxification is to use Methadone in an approved clinic and slowly taper the patient down from his usual dose of illegal opiates to zero over a period of approximately 21 days.
Buprenex is a new FDA med.
Ultram is a drug that has some opiate properties and therefore relieves withdrawal symptoms.
