What Should I Do About My Drug Addicted Ex-Fiance?

Question by emiller1008: what should i do about my drug addicted ex-fiance?
I recently moved from ohio to las vegas, nv to help my fiance recover from a heroin addiction. she and i have a 2 yr old son together and when she developed this addiction in ohio i freaked… i couldnt believe it was going on behind my back. i convinced her that we should move and she needed to get help. she wanted to move to vegas b/c her mother and grandfather live here. well we moved, and it took her about 2 months to ruin our lives once again.
now her drug of choice is crystal meth. for the past month she had been coming home high, out of control, making crazy accusations, acting violent towards me (hitting/trying to scratch my face), and wouldnt sleep for 2 or 3 days. on 2 different occasions i had to call the police because of the way she was acting. one time they took her to the hospital and ketp her for 3 days, but when she was released she started using again right away. 2 weeks ago she left to go out and hasnt been home since. she just walked out on my son and i. i have talked to her twice (once in person) since she left and she doesnt think she is doing anything wrong…calling me a controll freak for wanting her to go to rehab. she refuses to help her self. she has lost weight and looks like a walking zombie…now here is where i have a big problem…
the child that we have together, isnt biologically mine. she had gotten pregnant after we had been together for aprox 6 months and i thought it was my child. well, when my son was 9 months old the truth came out… it is irrelevent to me because he is the only son i have and vice versa, im the only father hes ever known. there is NO WAY i would let her try and be a mother right now because if she cant take care of her own life, how can she possibly take care of a toddler? i dont want his mom to be near or see him untill she gets help, but she keeps telling me i cant do anything to keep him from her and if she decides one day that she wants to take him from me, she can and she will.
–how do i prevent this emotionally and mentally unstable drug addict from taking the only thing i love and care about. from what i understand about custody laws, i really have no rights to this child, and i cant protect him from his mother. please if anyone has any insight as to what i need to do to obtain custody/become his “legal father”/ or prevent her from seeing him, i would appreciate it. i wouldnt be able to live with myself if something happened to my baby because of her poor choices…

Substance Abuse Treatment: Cognitive Substance Abuse Treatment – What Does It Really Do?

Substance abuse treatment has taken a new twist with the invention of cognitive substance abuse treatment where the brain of a drug user will be studied in its cognitive responses and why it is possible for a person to become a drug abuser. One big reasons people fall into the trap of drug abuse is because they seek the sensation of a mental escape that they will experience for the duration for which the drug takes effect in their body after ingesting it. Cognitive substance abuse involves extensive researches whereby the patient’s brain’s mental state when the drug abuser is enjoying the recreational drugs he abuses therefore quantifiable data can be derived and the right remedies can be dispensed which treats the actual root cause of the addiction.
