Need Help? Baby Sister on Heroin?
Question by : Need help? Baby sister on Heroin?
My baby sister just called me and told me that she is on heroin, she says that she has people after her and that she can not quit the drug on her own without becoming terribly ill. I know she needs my help and i am willing to take her children into my home while she goes to a rehab center, the only problem there is she doesn’t have any money, but i think she has a medical card, so is there a rehab center that anyone knows of near kentucky, ohio or indiana that will take in someone with a medical card? I don’t now what to do and really need some kind of advice.
p.s. does anyone know if any rehabs take people with medical cards?
medical card is like medicaid or medicare, whichever one isn’t for elderly people, the welfare one. and i would never turn my back on her, the reason she came to me is because i have battled my own addictions and she knows that because of that the last thing i would do is judge her. I still see her as my freckle face 7 year old stalker and would turn my back on her about the same time hell froze over.

Definitely you have to take her to the rehab center as soon as possible. If she told you this it means she desperately needs your help. So be beside her. Don’t leave her alone. You’ll find money.
I don’t know what else to say cos I don’t live there.. But I think that the rehabs should take people with medical cards. You should go there and ask as soon as possible. Don’t waste time cos with every moment it can get worse… I’m really sorry..

I take your talk of a medical card to mean that she has some kind of medical insurance coverage.
If that is the case then your sister needs to contact her insurance provider, and find out: a) if they cover her for entering a rehab centre, and b) if she is covered, then what rehab centres they approve of her entering.
Otherwise, finding a rehab centre on your own that you and your family can’t afford will be a waste of time.
I dont know about rehabs in that area, but I’ve been in similar situations and know it is very difficult. Search the internet on rehab centers… other then that all you can do is be supportive and let her know you care and try to keep her busy and away from drugs and bad influences. If she is going to be clean, she can not be around anyone else who is doing drugs. She will have to stop on her own terms, but if she is really determined she can do it.. and her kids will be good motivation to do so. Look into a drug called suboxone. It is used to help heroin addicts come off of it without withdrawal symptoms. It’s an opiate, but much less strong… its just enough to keep her from getting sick. It also blocks out all other opiates, so therefore if she took a suboxone in the morning, and tried to do heroin later in the day, she wouldnt feel it. It is similar to methadone if you are familiar with that drug, except it isnt as strong and doesn’t get you high if used properly. It is an improved drug, and much more successful and less abused. She would start off on a higher dose of subs and then slowly lower the amount until she is off of opiates completely. I know people who have been very successful with this drug. You can get it from certain doctors and clinics… not all doctors can prescribe it… and the main problem with it is that its expensive. Rehab is a good option, but once she gets back i would definitely suggest suboxone treatment and keeping a close eye on her to make sure she doesnt relapse. A lot of people go to rehab and once they go back, they go right back to their old habits. Further treatment is definitely necessary. Definitely try to convince her not to hang out with old friends… the temptation will be too much.
If she’s on heroin I would immediately get her into a rehab. My brother was a heroin addict and http://www.unityrehab.com was recommended. They’re based out in Florida and were fantastic. The staff understood the seriousness of the situation and catered to how emotional my brother was at the time. They were the reason why my brother is clean today.
