check with your local hospital, they can tell you of programs that might be covered by the state but unfortunately they are very crowded and have long waiting lists. Also contact your local NA group and take him to a meeting, they will have some ideas too.good luck
Have him go to the nearest county hospital. They will be able to help him there. Most are based on income and DO NOT turn anyone away.
He’s from Chicago? Then he needs to contact the Cook County department of social services. They will get him into the substance abuse program for FREE. The hospitals will NOT send him to a drug program. He can only go to the hospital to be medically detoxed, but after 3 days, they will discharge him. Might as well just put him in one place.
there are places. call a hotline or 1-800 # in the phone book to find out. social workers also know these things. they can also figure out if he can get welfare/ and hopefully qualify for the free programs. but if he doesnt’ agree to do it, there is probably no way, they don’t force people to get treatment unless there are kids involved. (they can threaten to remove custody of the kids from the drug affected parent forcing them into treatment)
He needs methadone (if its heroin) or a legal substitute. To get off the illegal drugs. Rehab is expensive. At the end of the day if he ain’t ready to come off, no matter how much rehab he has he wont. If he does, then get to the Doctor to prescribe a substitute. If he can pay for the drugs he can pay for a prescribed substitute
Not sure of Chicago. At least get him to AA. 90 in 90 can be pretty intense. I got sober by going to AA. No treatment center. It works .. I was nearly in the same boat, couldn’t do it on my own but had no money.
AA works when everyone else turns you away.. AA is there.
