How Long Will a Person Have to Stay Inside a Drug Rehab for Addiction Treatment?

Question by cheyanne tw: How long will a person have to stay inside a drug rehab for addiction treatment?
I was just wondering how long it would take for a person to recover from substance addiction. I have a neighbor who has just gotten into an inpatient drug rehab program and I want to know when he’s likely to be back here again.

The duration of the addiction treatment is likely to be dependent upon the needs of the person. It’s also dependent upon the length of time that the patient has been taking the substance. Your neighbor has to respond to the treatment positively so as to get out of rehab sooner. It takes a couple of months, and may even extend to a year or so.

It totally depends on the place and the program. It can be anywhere from 30-90 days. But don’t assume that means he has recovered. Addiction is a life long recovery and unfortunately, relapses are common occurrences.

It differs for everyone, most clinics offer 21 day and 30 day detox, or if he’s been mainlining heroin or whisky for years they have 90 day programs.
