How Do I Help My Friend Who Confided in Me That She Is a Cocaine Addict?

Basically, you can’t.

You can be supportive –encourage her to quit, or go to police to turn in her dealer, or to go to rehab, drive her to support groups, etc — but YOU CANNOT TAKE RESPONSIBLITY FOR HER PROBLEM, even if she tries to give it to you. It’s handy for addicts to hand off the problem to someone else, so many try to give away the responsibility to a friend or family. This doesn’t work. This absolves them of failing, and gives them no responsibility/investment in success.

I am a recovered addict and some great advice is to leave her alone. She will recover when she wants to or she will die from the disease. Either way you have no control over her.

In short simple sweet words you really cant help her. If you want her to live and not die of this addiction then you must take her to get help. Your friend confided in yo which is great because it means she trusts you but you might have to break this trust and tell an adult about this. You have to tell her family about whats going on beecause in reality there is nothing you can do to help besides giving her encouragement and taking her to get some professional help. theres really nothing you can do besides just wait and watch what the outcome of the situation is. But I definately would recommend you tell her family if they already dont know and you encourage her to get some help because this is a horrible thing and you must really care for her so you really dont want her to die

Read about the addiction so you have a little bit of an understanding of what shes going through. Rehab and counseling is her best bet, if you really want to help her she’ll have more motivation to go and quit if you find time to attend meetings with her. You need to talk to her and support her by being there when you can. However, realize that it wont be easy for her to just quit and you cant stress and put such a heavy burden on yourself to make her quit. She has to want to quit first and remember this is her problem not your own.
