I’m Looking for a Mental Health Clinic That Can Deal With Addiction and Suicide in a Bi-Polar Teen?
Question by ………: I’m looking for a mental health clinic that can deal with addiction and suicide in a Bi-polar teen?
It needs to be around Cincinnati Ohio and it has to be a live in center. He is 18 years old and has recently been diagnosed as Bipolar, he hasn’t been able to be given proper medication because he is throwing weed and synthetic weed/incense into the mix. It makes him very emotionally unstable and he does whatever he think will pull him out of his depression. Typically, that means more drugs, or alcohol. He is out of control and has attempted suicide while high at least three times in the past month or two.
Also, his parents aren’t rich. Are there any things that can help them with the immense costs these places seem to carry? (I understand the costs, I just need a way to maybe help them out.)
He attends therapy once a week, but it isn’t enough… 🙁

Teen suicide is a very dangerous reality in today’s society. It doesn’t matter if the talk of suicide is manipulation or not, it is a cry for help. Some teens in a cry for help accidentally take their own life, even though this may not have been their intention. It becomes more difficult when the teen is 18 as the parents may not be able to force him into any type of treatment. Each state law varies as to what can or can’t be forced on a teen once they turn 18. In some cases parents may be able to have the teen forced into treatment if he is sincerely suicidal. Health insurance may pay for this type of placement. Programs are available for teens 18 and over but they are strictly voluntary and the teen must be willing to come and stay. Some have the ability to assist the teen in obtaining a GED or diploma. They are very pricey how ever at a cost of about $ 6,000 per month, paid in advance. If the teen chooses to leave the parents will more than likely lose any remaining tuition.
The main problem is chronologically the teen is considered an adult. As such the teen has the same rights the parents have. There are ways to encourage the teen in the direction the parents would like him to go. Parents can begin refusing to give him any money and establishing a home contract. The home contract establishes some rules that are required for the teen to live with the family. It is considered tough love, but some times this may be required to help the boy.
