Will Going to a Drug Treatment Program Really Help Me?

Question by alysha_m: Will going to a drug treatment program really help me?
I feel like it’s just going to be a waste of money. Maybe I can just go cold turkey? I haven’t quit yet, but I think I can do it on my own.

Engaging in a drug treatment program is going to help you. You said so yourself that you haven’t quit yet, which means that you don’t know if you’re going to experience withdrawal symptoms, and if you will be able to handle them. Getting medical help would still be best. But at least you want to quit. That’s already a huge step. You have to want this. You have to have strong willpower in order for you to go into abstinence. Try going cold turkey, if you experience any withdrawal symptoms, get medical help immediately. Money might be important, but this is your life that we’re talking about.

The question you should ask yourself is: is it going to be to a disadvantage to try it. The answer is no. Just give it a go. If it isn’t right for you then you can try a different method. Good luck

I believe you should have rehab and counselling with a good support system. You don’t state what drugs so it is hard to give a detailed answer. You are worth saving your life so I don’t see it being a waste of money IF you are really committed to quit.

it depends on what drug, if it is just pot you can go cold turky, every thing elce will hurt like hell to quit and the drug treatment will help you deal with the withdrawls and craveing that you are going to have. the withdrawals will go away but the craveings may never go away and the drug treatment will help you learn to deal with and over come the craveings.

If you are on hard drugs you need to go for sure.

Good luck recovery is a long hard road but you will get there.

If you can do it on your own, why would you need treatment. If your use of drugs has progressed to the point that you’re considering treatment, clearly you’ve experienced numerous negative consequences, and yet continued to use drugs. Doesn’t sound like you can quit on your own, at least not long term, or you wouldn’t be in this position now, right?

If not treatment, make a committment to go to narcotics anonymous meetings once per day for 90 days and then re-evaluate it.
