I Have a 14 Year Old Son, Who Is Out of Control, I Am Looking for Resources and Suggestions.?
Question by jooten1: I have a 14 year old son, who is out of control, I am looking for resources and suggestions.?
My son has lied numerous times, about girls, drugs, smoking etc. He may fail this year, has been suspended for fighting 4 times, and his behaviour is tearing our family apart. I don’t want him to have a police record, although he is heading in that direction. I am about half afraid of him and worried about the influence he may have over our 11 year old daughter. I need counseling/treatment resources in the Columbus, Ohio area, and/or any suggestions you might have.

Look at local free parenting classes generally put on by neighborhood associations. You might be able to find this through your local library. There’s a book that is great basic info: The Parents Handbook that is a fantastic resource for moving your parenting style to where it’s less stressful on you and puts the action and consequences on your son. Work with the school social worker and talk to them about solutions. You’ll need to know how school penalties will work in order to convince your son this is the beginning of a bad end if he continues to work toward it. It helps if he can think of other friends who behaved in the way he is and ask what’s going on with them now. Does he want to end up the same way…You need to be able to develop a system of consequences and encouragement to fit the negative and positive activity. Good luck
